Our Story

Interior Workshops was established in 1985 in Battersea, making upholstery for the trade. In 1987, and now situated in Wandsworth, the curtain department was launched, making Interior Workshops one of the finest interior soft furnishings companies, offering both upholstery and curtains in London.

After over 35 years of service combined, in 2009 Alex Munday and Vincent Gruber excelled in their jobs and succeeded in becoming company directors. An exciting new era began and continues on today. In 2019, Alex and Vince relocated the IWS team and workshop to its new home in Chessington, Surrey.

Since opening, we have had the most incredibly creative and hardworking team with years of experience and undeniable skill. To keep the trade alive, we have trained apprentices in the art of making hand-finished bespoke soft furnishings with attention to detail from start to finish.

Interior Workshops works with designers on projects all over the globe and has had the privilege of working in places such as the South of France, Spain, Russia, Thailand and Barbados where clients require high-spec, luxury interior soft furnishings to make their holiday retreat a home.

Over 35 years later, we still have some of our original team producing the highest quality items. At Interior Workshops, we take pride in our confidentiality and professionalism with each of our clients, together with our attention to detail and after care, we are confident that this is what separates us from the rest.

Meet the Team

Between Vince and Alex, they put in over 35 years of service at Interior Workshops before taking over the company in 2009. They were both well known to all existing clients and have continued to build a reliable and trusting relationship with new and regular clients, keeping Interior Workshops standards at its best.

Vincent Gruber

Director: 2009 – Present

Vince has been with Interior Workshops since 1986 when he began his apprenticeship as an upholsterer. Vince learnt everything he knows today from the best in the upholstery trade and now continues to share his knowledge to keep Interior Workshops producing the highest quality furniture, and installing luxurious fabric walling.

Alexander Munday

Director: 2009 – Present

Alex trained and worked as an upholsterer and curtain fitter for 15 years before joining Interior Workshops in 2000, where he became part of the measuring and installation team. Alex has always put the customers needs and expectations at the forefront of all projects going above and beyond to make sure the client is happy with the final product; and thrives off of the projects where the client has been told by others that their designs are not possible.

The Team Behind The Magic

Interior Workshops has a 20+ team of skilled soft furnishers and seamstresses who make the impossible seem easy. As every item is bespoke and made to order, they use their skill and creative mind set to bring our clients designs and ideas to life. We have members of the team who have been with us since the beginning in the late 1980’s. Their traditional methods are still being used today which are taught to our newer members of the team; who themselves bring the modern techniques and new ideas. Interior Workshops are proud to have such a diverse and artistic team who work together creating the ‘magic’.
